Introduction

So, you have an assignment that asks you to find a journal article, an article from a scholarly journal, or a scholarly journal article? Not sure what that means? No worries, we have you covered here.

This guide will show you how to identify a journal article on sight.

Types of Periodicals

Periodical articles come in a variety of different types. Make sure to read the assignment closely to determine if your instructor requires the use of specific types of periodical articles.

Is there a difference? YES!

There are four categories of periodical articles:

  • Newspapers
  • Magazines
  • Trade Publications
  • Journals (sometimes called scholarly journals or academic journals)

In fact, in terms of quality, the listing above reflects article quality from low value to high value.
